Frequently Asked Questions

Does laser hair removal hurt?

It can feel a little uncomfortable, but most people describe it as a pinching or warm sensation. That’s because the machine uses cooling to keep your skin protected while the laser pulses deliver light. No numbing cream is required.

Laser vs. IPL Hair Removal: What's the Difference?

Both laser and IPL (intense pulsed light) hair removal use light to target and disable hair follicles, but there are some key differences:

Light Source: Lasers use a single, concentrated beam of light with a specific wavelength. IPL uses a broad spectrum of light with multiple wavelengths.

Precision: Lasers are more precise, targeting melanin (pigment) in the hair follicle more directly. IPL scatters its light, making it less precise.

Effectiveness: Lasers are generally more effective, especially for darker hair and lighter skin tones. IPL may require more treatments and might not be suitable for everyone.

Skin Safety: Lasers can be adjusted for better safety on various skin tones. IPL can be riskier for darker skin tones, potentially causing burns.

Applications: Lasers can target specific areas more precisely. IPL may be better for larger areas.

In short: Lasers offer a more targeted, effective treatment, while IPL might be a gentler option for certain situations. It’s best to consult a professional to determine which method is best for you.

How many laser hair removal treatments will I need?

It depends on a few things:

  • Where you’re getting treated: Some areas, like your upper lip, have faster hair growth and might need more treatments (6 to 12) for good results. Other areas, like your back, grow hair slower and might need fewer treatments.
  • Your hair: Coarse, dark hair usually responds better to laser hair removal than fine, light hair.
  • Your hormones: Hormonal changes can affect hair growth. If you have hormonal imbalances, you might need more treatments or touch-up treatments later on.

Here’s why you’ll need multiple treatments: Your hair goes through different growth phases, and the laser only works on hairs in a specific growth phase. By having multiple treatments spaced out over time, you’ll catch more hairs in that growth phase and get better results.

What to expect after your laser hair removal treatment:

  • Your skin might be a little red and bumpy. This is normal and should go away within a few days. The bumps might look like tiny red pimples, but they’re just swelling around the hair follicles.
  • The treated hair might seem to grow back at first. Don’t worry! Those hairs are actually falling out because of the treatment, it can just take up to 2 weeks to see them shed completely.
  • Shave as needed, but avoid other hair removal methods. Shaving doesn’t affect the hair follicle, so it’s okay between treatments. Waxing, plucking, or anything that removes the hair from the root can mess with the laser’s effectiveness, so avoid those for now.

Can I do my normal activities after laser hair removal?

Sure, you can get back to most things right away! There are just a few things to keep in mind:

  • Skip the hot tub and sauna for a day. Heat can irritate your skin after treatment.
  • Stay out of the sun for 3 days. Sun exposure can make your skin more sensitive after the laser.
  • Sunscreen is your friend! Once you can be in the sun again, use sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher on the treated area.
